What happens if I am late applying Prodiamine?

You need to put down some Prodiamine, but worried you missed your window. What happens if you are late putting down your pre-emergent? 

The answer is that if your soil temps are between 50º-70º, go ahead and throw'r down or spray and pray, depending on your favorite way to sling it. 

Crabgrass germinates when soil temperatures are between that 50º - 70º window, and not all of the crabgrass will germinate at the same time. Applying Prodiamine pre-emergent late is better than not applying at all, as it can still provide a level of protection for your lawn. This is one of those times that the saying "better late than never' truly does apply. 

That being said, if your soil temperatures are over 70, then leave the Prodiamine behind and consider it part of your strategy in the fall. 

Reversely, in the fall, your window is 70º to 55º. However, 70º is the beginning of your window, and 55º is the end of the fall window. If you miss this window, don't worry, as winter will be on its way for many of you, and the cold temps are your weed-killing backup.
